Tell us about this project.

A family of five and a North Carolina design duo came together on a plan for this 6,000 square foot new construction. Designed and dressed to glisten with custom built furnishings, contemporary lighting and classic adornments, every room in this Bloomfield Hills home exhibits elements of the homeowner’s style.

What were your design inspirations for the home?

“The client’s design sense was a combination of beautifully detailed classic traditional infused with contemporary facets and defining bling,” said Stephanie James, co-owner with Patti Allen of Allen and James Designs. “The home’s vaulted ceilings and immense banks of windows created volume and visibility perfect for impressive furnishings and fixtures and plenty of wow.”

What is the biggest challenge you faced designing and/or building this home?

The sheer volume of the project, not only dimensionally but also in scope. The lengths the designers went to in the pursuit of allure for this home stretches across soaring spaces but was also evident in quaint enclaves such as the master closet. Bathed in sunlight from floor to ceiling windows, the intimate touches in this dressing retreat adjacent to a grand master bedroom speaks to the amount of detail running throughout the rest of the home.

What makes this home special compared to other projects you’ve worked on?

As one enters the home, ambiance and sparkle surrounds you as much as soothing colors, textures and traditional details. The soaring ceilings, which rise above the living room and connecting dining room, create volume showcasing architectural elements as well as the purposefully placed furnishings. Understanding the client’s style preferences, timeless pieces were included from room to room.
